One of Victoria’s most anticipated traditions returns this summer and will transform the Inner Harbour into a spectacular celebration of live music, community spirit, and waterfront magic… Get ready Victoria, it’s Symphony Splash time again!
The Victoria Symphony launched Symphony Splash in 1990 to bring classical music directly to the public—accessible, celebratory, and in a most unforgettable way.
The concept was bold: set up a full orchestra on a floating barge in the harbour, play to the crowd on land and water, and end the evening with fireworks. And it worked. Today, Symphony Splash stands as one of Canada’s largest and unique symphonic events that sees attendees travel from across B.C., Alberta, Washington State, and even overseas just to be part of this unique musical spectacular.
Crowds upwards of 40,000 people typically attend Splash, lining Bellville Street and the Causeway with colourful lawn chairs, as well as filling up various spots on the Legislature lawn; and that’s just the land participants! The harbour itself will teem with kayaks, paddleboards, and small boats, making the water view truly a front-row seat for those who want to be as close to the action as possible.
For the first time, organizers will hold Symphony Splash 2025 over two days: Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3, 2025, allowing even more opportunities for audiences to enjoy the music in different, fun and relaxed settings. And with unique programming each day, organizers will treat families and fans alike to an all-around broader musical experience.
This year’s program includes appearances by the 91 members of The National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Juno award-winning Indigenous vocalists Celeigh Cardinal and Shawnee Kish, BC Entertainment Hall of Fame percussionist Sal Ferreras, Cuban vocalist Adonis Puentes, a Latin Jazz Sextet, and of course, the Victoria Symphony.
While admission is free, donations are encouraged to help fund the Symphony’s community programs and music education initiatives. Over the weekend, volunteers in red shirts will circulate with buckets, so don’t forget to bring a little extra to support the arts.
Two days of music, thousands of people, one floating orchestra—Symphony Splash 2025 promises to be more magical than ever. Whether you arrive early with a picnic blanket or paddle up to the barge by kayak, prepare to be swept away by the sound of summer in Victoria. Full program details below, or at the Symphony Splash website.
Grab your lawn chairs and we will see you in the harbour this weekend!
